Levi’s Pioneer Songs, the latest example of a major multi-national company showing some <3 for the indie rock genre, is an ongoing series of free recordings that feature some of our favorite acts — The Swell Season, Passion Pit, Dirty Projectors, The Shins, Nas, etc. — covering artist of years past.
So far, Nas has covered Slick Rick’s “Hey Young World” and The Swell Season offered its take on Candi Staton’s “Young Hearts Run Free”. For part three in series, Levi’s rounded up indie’s favorite boy girl music duo, aka M. Ward and Zooey Deschannel, aka She & Him. Fittingly enough, the duo made the most of its old-time sound and tackled Rube Bloom and Johnny Mercer’s “Fools Rush In”, a song which was recorded six decades ago. In the coming weeks, expect to hear move covers from the likes of Dirty Projectors, The Shins, Raphael Saadiq, John Legend and The Roots, Passion Pit, and The Kills.
