Watch: The Gaslight Anthem plays "The Boxer", Pearl Jam on Fallon

It’s official. We want to be in the studio audience at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The Roots are the house band, and whoever books musical acts needs a raise. In the last month alone, the show has boasted the likes of Ice Cube, Mumford & Sons, The Black Keys, and Broken Social Scene.

Last night’s show was especially tantalizing. Viewers were treated to The Gaslight Anthem ditching its single – “American Slang” – in favor of a blazing version of “The Boxer”.

Not that there’s anything wrong with the title track from their brand new album, but “The Boxer”’s bouncy bass line and Brian Fallon’s vocal lines are far more infectious than the U2-esque anthem’s swelling guitar parts and shout-along chorus.

The real treat, however, came after the broadcast was put to tape. The band apparently stuck around and powered through its version of Pearl Jam’s “State of Love and Trust” from the 1992 soundtrack to Singles.

While it’s hard to match the intensity of a 28-year-old Eddie Vedder, Brian Fallon is more than qualified to take on the task. His take on the Vedder vocal attack was almost spot on, and his band played their parts masterfully.
