Since everyone and their mother seems to be getting a biopic these days — 2Pac, Daniel Johnston, N.W.A., Jimi Hendrix, Sam Cooke, Brian Epstein, Hank Williams, John Lennon, and Apple Records included — it’s only appropriate that rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest female voice is getting one too.
According the The Playlist, a Janis Joplic biopic is now in the works. Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey broke the news in a sort of nonchalant manner during a recent interview with FEARnet. Discussing his production company’s upcoming projects, he noted “one’s a Fernando Meirelles Janis Joplin movie with Amy Adams playing Janis Joplin.”
So there you have it. Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles — best known for his 2004 film City of God — is overseeing the project and Academy Award winning actress Amy Adams will be playing the legendary rocker. Godfrey said the project should begin filming this fall.
The Playlist does point out, however, that this isn’t the first time a Janis Joplin biopic has been in the works. Previously, Zooey Deschanel was set to play her in a film titled The Gospel According To Janis, but the project was ultimately scrapped. So keep your fingers crossed that this latest attempt actually works out.
