Of late, David Byrne has had quite a hodgepodge of headlines, ranging from a lawsuit against Florida’s governor to a guest appearance on Dave Sitek’s forthcoming solo debut. He’s also reportedly working with St. Vincent on some project that’s sure to be nifty.
His latest endeavor, a film score, is by no means a unique career choice for the former Talking Heads frontman, but, still, it’s not everyday you follow up the release of a collaborative album with Fatboy Slim by penning the score for a new Sean Penn film.
According to The Playlist, the film, titled This Must Be the Place (yes, we’re assuming it takes its name from the Heads’ song of the same name), features Penn as a bored, middle-aged rock star, who takes on the quest of finding his father’s executioner, an ex-Nazi war criminal who is a refugee in the U.S. The film also stars Frances McDormand. Italian director Paolo Sorrentino will oversee the project.
As mentioned, film scores are by no mean a foreign concept for Byrne. His resume already includes contributions to HBO’s Big Love, the 2003 David Mackenzie film, Young Adam, and Oliver Stone’s 1981 class Wall Street.
The film is set to shoot in Dublin, Ireland and the U.S. for 10 weeks starting in August. A release date has not yet been set.
