For a guy who once asked that fans 222222Anot buy any of his reissues, Morrissey sure does have a lot of them. Sure, bad label schemes to ripe an artist off are plentiful, but it gets to the point where you think he may actually be in on it. Well, heap another collection on the pile as, according to SlicingUpEyeballs.com, EMI will be reissuing Bona Drag with six brand new, never before released songs.
In case you’re unfamiliar with Bona Drag, the October 1990 release is actually a compilation of early singles from the former Smiths frontman. The collection, which EMI claims has “Morrissey’s full cooperation,” will be remastered and released on Expanded CD and “double heavyweight” 180-gram vinyl editions. The original album release featured the four Viva Hate singles, the post-Viva Hate singles of 1989 and 1990, and a song recorded specifically for the album, “Piccadilly Palare”. Along with all of the aforementioned, this new release will offer bonus material and six songs taken from old studio sessions, including “Happy Lovers At Last United” from the “Everyday is Like Sunday” sessions and an alternate long mix of “Let the Right One Slip In”.
Also, if you care, which we hope you don’t, the shirt Morrissey will be wearing on the as-yet-unreleased album art will be its original shade of black. Plus, the album artwork will feature “a selection of favourite, hand-picked and rarely seen photos.”
Bona Drag is out September 27th in the U.K. via EMI’s Major Minor, an old ’60s imprint being resurrected for this very release.
