Idlewild give back to fans with American tour

With hot new bands emerging weekly, a six-year absence from touring on American soil could seem like career suicide for any band. For Idlewild, the proof is in the record. Or, at least, in the funding of the record.

See, in 2007 Idlewild found themselves without a record label and with their future very much uncertain. However, through an outpouring of monetary support from fans, including thousands of pre-orders for a record that had not even been made yet, the band was able to continue and create their sixth studio album, entitled Post Electric Blues. Due out October 12th, the record continues their tradition of zigging where other UK acts zag, with frontman Roddy Woomble declaring a more “0ff the cuff feel for the record.”

The fan involvement didn’t end with just the money. Idlewild reached back and really made the fans a part of the record. Woomble notes that “the fans of the band were part of this album and were entitled to see the songs being written and to feel a part of them.  They paid for them to be recorded after all. We all really like and appreciate the fact the fans paid for us to make this album and that all their names are inside of it.”

As exciting as all this is, the news that the band will indeed make a return to America for a short series of dates that will begin in Los Angeles and end in New York is way more pressing to those of us who didn’t pay.   Below are the current tour dates for those punk-folkies.
