Omar Rodríguez-López maps out US tour dates

It’s very clear that Omar Rodríguez-López likes to give things away, but after releasing two of his latest efforts pro bono, it looks like the 34-year-old leader or The Mars Volta is finally hitting the road to make some jack. And although he’s officially touring the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group, the tour’s brevity should do be enough to fill the small venues.

The group, which was formed as an outlet for the guitarist’s non-Mars Volta solo material, is currently made up of members Ximena Sariñana Rivera, Deantoni Parks, and Mars Volta cohorts Juan Alderete and Marcel Rodríguez-López. Unfortunately, two of Lopez’ more notable solo collaborators, ex-Red Hot Chilli Pepper John Frusciante and Money Mark, will not be appearing.

The three-date run of stateside dates starts on September 14th at the Troubador in West Hollywood, hits New York on the 17th, and then concludes in Chicago on the 18th. For those left out of this current run, however, don’t free just yet. There is a significant gap between the band’s Japanese festival gig and the first U.S. show, and Rodriguez-Lopez has already confirmed that he is looking to add a show in San Francisco on September 13th.

Playing support on the tour will be mask-wearing Sergeant House labelmates Le Butcherettes.

Tickets are already available, but hurry because the Highline Ballroom show on September 17th is reportedly close to sold out. Tickets range from $15-25 depending on the venue and are available via their respective websites.
