Just in case you’re not the lucky winner of the reissued vinyl of R.E.M.‘s classic 1985 album Fables of the Reconstruction, we’ve got a bit of a consolation prize for you. No, it’s not a pair of signed drum sticks. Instead, we bring news (via SlicingUpEyeballs.com) that the legendary Athens band has successfully finished recording their as-yet-untitled 15th studio album. Take that, autographed photo.
In an email to fans, the band’s manager Bertis Downs wrote that the group had spent most of June in Berlin, Germany at Hansa Studios with Jacknife Lee (U2, Bloc Party, Editors) to complete their follow up to 2008’s Accelerate. Their German excursion was their third time in the studio this year, with previous stops to record in Portland and New Orleans. As per Downs, the plan is to mix in the fall and then, fingers crossed, all signs are pointing towards spring 2011″ for the release.
As always, stay tuned for more album news and details as they’re announced.
