Social Distortion‘s notorious frontman, and sole original member, Mike Ness is closing in on 50, and continues to fuel the legendary punk-rock outfit with the energy of an incensed twenty-something. Already in 2010, Social Distortion laid down tracks for their debut with Epitaph, concluded their first ever South American tour, plotted a summer US tour with an appearance at Lollapalloza, and underwent a change of line-up upon the departure of drummer Atom Willard (Angels and Airwaves). Use Mike Ness as a lesson kids, when you’re sober goals are much easier to accomplish.
After spending months on the followup to 2004s Sex, Love and Rock n Roll, Mike Ness and company have come down with a case of studio-fever. Even before their summer tour has begun, Social Distortion have announced a 25-date fall tour with cowpunk act Lucero. After concluding their club tour August 15th with a festival appearance at Outside Lands, the four-some will take a month to relax in California before playing Salt Lake’s Complex October 14th. According to both Ness, and our friends at Slicing Up Eyeballs, expect that seventh studio release to drop between these dates.
From Utah, Social D have planned to play larger theaters through the Eastern and Southern US. Oddly, no California dates, except the previously mentioned festival appearance, have currently been announced. The tour is highlighted by shows at the 9:30 Club in DC, Philly’s Electric Factory, a Halloween show in Jersey, the Fillmore at Miami Beach, and Stubbs Waller Creek Amphitheatre in Austin. The tour concludes November 23rd in Tempe, AZ. A complete tourlisting follows, with tickets to most dates available starting Friday, July 9th at Ticketmaster.
