The Dears to play new album in full with residency tour

In this day and age, the sad truth of the music world is that albums leak. People can’t wait, they get impatient, and then we end up with a really bad quality of the new Of Montreal album. Some bands get upset, but others don’t let it get to them. The latter was the case for The Dears in 2008 when their fourth album, Missiles, leaked, leading to the band shrugging it off and hitting the road. And while their new album, scheduled to be released early 2011, may still leak, the band are once again handling fans’ impatience with their trademark cool: You want the album early? Come to one of their three separate residencies and hear it in full.

The three residencies will be split up amongst Montreal, QB, Toronto, ON, and in the good old U S of A, Brooklyn, NY. Montreal and Toronto get three dates each, while Brooklyn gets a mere two nights in all. Montreal’s Pop Montreal festival gets first dibs on the as-yet-untitled and utterly detail-less album on September 29th-October 1st, followed by Toronto’s The Garrison on October 13th-15th. Lastly, to make November in New York a treat, they’ll head to the Knitting Factory on November 3rd-4th. And while you’re treating yourself, buy some merch; proceeds will go to charities Montreal City Mission and War Child.

Tickets for the Montreal and Toronto shows are on sale here and here, respectively, starting today. The New York shows are on sale here starting July 24th. The Dears’ new album is scheduled to hit stores in early 2011 via Dangerbird Records. As always, stay tuned for more news as it’s announced.
