As previously reported, Iggy & The Stooges’ currently ongoing reunion will come to a culmination later this year with a headlining appearance at ATP New York. Playing alongside the likes of Sonic Youth, Sleep, Raekwon, Explosions in the Sky, The Books, Fuck Buttons, and more, the legendary punk outfit will kick off the Monticello, New York based festival on September 3rd by performing their iconic 1973 album Raw Power in its entirety.
Needless to say, it’s a pretty big deal, so much so in fact that the band will look to document the performance by releasing the footage in a forthcoming concert film. But rather than shell out oodles of dough on a high priced production staff, The Stooges will be relying on their fans to capture the scene.
Today, the band announced the “In The Hands of The Fan” promotion, which basically offers six fans the opportunity to travel to Monticello and shoot The Stooges’ performance. Interested parties are asked to submit a video of themselves asking the band a question about Raw Power. The best entries will then be selected and brought to ATP New York — well, brought in the context that they’ll get to go up to the festival. Winners will still need to provide their own transportation and lodging.
A release date for the film has not yet been disclosed, but we’ll surely update you when it is. In the meantime, you can watch a more extensive explanation of the contest in the video embedded below.
