Upcoming Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock to feature Rush story mode

If “slapping the bass” and pretending you’re Paul Rudd in “I Love You, Man” doesn’t fulfill your Rush fix, you’re in luck. The upcoming Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will heavily feature the legendary Canadian outfit, which joins Metallica, Aerosmith, Van Halen and AC/DC as rock gods with their own Guitar Hero game.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will consist of more than 90 songs (the most of any Guitar Hero game), has a fully developed story mode, and allows gamers to play all of Rush’s 2112 album. Members of Rush worked extensively with video game creators and are fans of the series themselves (via Antimusic.com).

“I love the idea of Guitar Hero,” said bassist/vocalist/keyboardist Geddy Lee. “I think it’s a great way to be introduced to music of various bands and I think the context of Warriors of Rock is really appropriate for the 2112 album,” he said.

For those unaware, the band’s 1976 album tells the story of a future society in which music is banned. Consequently, the plot of 2112 lends itself especially well to a story mode; the game’s hero finds himself on a 50-year journey with his guitar as he enters dream worlds, engages in enter-planetary battles, and goes into hiding. We can only guess what will be going on when the “Attention all planets of the Solar Federation: We have assumed control” line comes at the end.

Adds Lee, who also narrates the game:

“In our story, the caves of 2112 are where our hero finds the lost guitar and this rediscovery of music is much like the Guitar Hero warriors’ journey to find the Demi-God of Rock’s Legendary guitar, which has been trapped in a cavern.”

In addition to Rush songs, gamers can play songs from other bands including Black Sabbath, KISS, Muse and Queen. A press release from Activision announces a September 2010 release, but no exact day. Watch the preview video with band interviews here:
