The art of the music video may be dead, but don’t tell Chromeo that. Their crazy-sexy-strange clips never disappoint, melding their smooth-guy seduction with some bizarre motif or other. For Business Casual‘s second single, “Don’t Turn the Lights On”, that motif is, predictably, light. The lights are on and the lights go off. When the lights go on again though, everything’s changed! It’s a simple premise, but one they use to hilarious effect. Now there’s a saxophone! Now there’s a cake! Now there’s other people playing their instruments!
At one point a pair of disembodied eyeballs floats around on bloody stalks, looking up women’s skirts and rummaging through garbage cans. It’s just weird until a dog starts licking them. Then it becomes strangely adorable.
Side note: when the lights are off, does anyone else think it looks a little like everyone’s wearing blackface?
Business Casual, Chromeo’s third full-length effort, is due for release on September 14th via Atlantic.
