While the citizens of these great United States celebrate the countrys independence with booze and barbeque, Pearl Jam has released a new video in the hopes of spurring a different kind of independence independence from oil. CoS is not a political site by any means, but its hard to ignore the message that Eddie Vedder & Co. are trying to convey in the video clip for Amongst the Waves the third single from their latest album, Backspacer.
The audio comes from a live version of the song, and the video switches between fish-eyed footage of a father and daughter frolicking in the salty sea and concert film of a sweaty Vedder singing the song which in the wake of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico sounds like an anthem for the ocean. The video was produced by Volcom, and actually makes us want to take a dive into the nearest body of water until images of oil slicks and a pelican covered in crude make us think twice.
It goes up for sale on July 7th via iTunes, and all proceeds from stateside sales of the clip benefit Conservation Internationals Ocean Campaign, an organization that is committed to helping societies adopt a more sustainable approach to development that considers and values nature at every turn.
