Widespread Panic announce fall tour

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Irv Gordon and his 1966 Volvo P1800 hold the record for most miles driven at nearly three million. But that shagged out hippie-van that has been following Widespread Panic since 1986 must be getting pretty close. After all, as Panic embark on the final week of their summer tour, they have already announced an extensive fall tour.

Before they do anything, however, the six-piece — which are now all creeping up on the age of 50 — will be taking a well-deserved month off between their final summer performance July 31st in Charlotte and the beginning of the fall tour September 17 at West Virginia University.

Once their hippie-van gets rolling again, Panic will perform at this year’s Tunes for Tots Benefit Concert in Atlanta September 23rd. The tour will then run until Halloween with multiple dates in Alpharetta, GA, Nashville, Milwaukee, Oakland, Reno, and New Orleans.

Tickets for the fall dates will go on sale starting Friday, July 30th via Ticketmaster.com. And don’t forget the essentials — beer, friends, and recording equipment.

In other Panic news, the band will soon be releasing the followup to 2002’s Live In The Classic City live album. Culled from the same three-night Athens, GA, performances (April 1-3, 2000) as the original, Live In The Classic City II includes special guests Mike Mills (R.E.M.), percussionist Arvin Scott, producer John Keane, and vocalists Daniel Hutchens and Anne Richmond Boston.
