Zach de la Rocha’s One Day As A Lion plots first live performances ever

Every cloud has a silver lining, they always say. News that HARD LA was canceled, er, rescheduled, left many Californians at a loss for what to do this weekend — Frank Stallone is playing at Universal City Walk and I guess The English Beat are still around and are playing Irvine on Saturday.

But before you have to make the Stallone/E-Beat decision and tear you hair out, let me throw in a wild card: Zach de la Rocha. His latest side-project One Day As A Lion will be performing its first two live performances ever this weekend at “undisclosed locations” in Pomona and Los Angeles (via Pop & Hiss).

Though details remain minimal, we do know Saturday’s performance will feature only de la Rocha and Mars Volta drummer Jon Theadore, while Sunday will see the pair teamed with keyboardist Joey Karam of Locust.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday at 12:00PM PT and can be purchased online here for Saturday and here for Sunday. You can also go offline to Origami Vinyl in Echo Park and the Glasshouse Record Store in Pomona to score them. In the meantime, how about a refresher of their 2008 self-titled EP.

Zach de la Rocha has always been a bit of a guerrilla performer with his former (dare we say other?) band Rage Against The Machine, crashing Democratic and Republican National Conventions, NY Stock Exchanges, and a rather famous SNL performance at which they were not invited back for a second song. Though there are still some places they just won’t ever demonstrate.
