Check Out: Azure Ray – “Don’t Leave My Mind”

After a six-year hiatus, Azure Ray, the dream pop duo of Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor, recently announced a new album, Drawing Down the Moon. Nearly immediately fans and those vibing on the album’s buzz wondered what they might sound like after such a long break. Worry no longer as, thanks to Stereogum, we’re getting our first taste of their new album on the aptly-titled “Don’t Leave My Mind”.

As far as girl-powered dream pop goes, you can’t get much better than Azure Ray. For this particular track, there’s a heavy emphasis on the pop angle, making a song that takes the heart and soul of a great love song and adds in the pre-requisite bleeps, bloops, and ambient noises. All in all, it’s a lyrically bittersweet little ditty with a pretty ethereal beat that doesn’t so much pummel you with sadness as inform the mood of the song.  Not bad for nearly a decade away as a unit.

If you’re hooked, scroll below to check out the song. Still not enough Azure Ray? Make sure you check out the duo on tour starting this October. Drawing Down the Moon hits stores September 14th via Saddle Creek Records.
