We made the joke earlier that Jimmy Eat World had reinvented themselves on their new album, Invented (get it, it’s a play on words). But now that we’ve gotten a listen to the album’s first single, “My Best Theory” (via RockItOutBlog.com), it turns out that said funny may have more truth to it than we had realized.
The band’s last album was 2007’s Chase This Light, which was more emo than anything else, full of emotion magnified to the 10th degree. For this new track, the band sound a little more self-assured. With the rumble of big, booming instrumentation behind them, there’s a sense of vulnerability without giving up the self-confident rock sound. If you’re an old school fan of Jimmy Eat World, it’ll give you the same tingle as almost any cut from Bleed American.
