Check Out: New Clinic Video for “I’m Aware”

Clinic‘s first single from their upcoming fall release Bublegum is titled “I’m Aware” and it is exactly that, a completely self-aware first taste. It has enough to pique my interest in the new album with soothing orchestration, a tense buildup that doesn’t play to the easy melody and the big finish that isn’t really that big. Basically, it’s an interesting song, kind of sounding like Thom Yorke fronting The Beatles, but like a B-side of the naturally great album that the Yorke-Beatles would record.

The video is also interesting. It’s got puppets, it’s got a reindeer that seems to be touching himself and having orgasms or just playing guitar, and it has a sun that vomits rainbows. Yet, it is still kind of dull, like a G-rated “Pon De Floor”. I’ve gotten into the habit of not gaining or losing excitement based on singles and in the context of an album, this could be really something. Judge for yourself and feel strange about puppets for a few minutes….

Clinic’s album, Bubblegum, is debuting on October 5th on Domino. Here’s where you can see them next week or in the fall:
