Check Out: New Limp Bizkit track – “Walking Away”

Not to be left behind by Korn, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has leaked yet another track from the band’s fifth album – Gold Cobra. The LP still doesn’t have a release date, but the new song definitely makes the return of the Jacksonville, Fla. based rap-rockers a lot less frightening.

“Walking Away” trades the pulsating agro-attack of “Why Try” (which “leaked” in May) for looped guitar and cheesy lyrics about eliminating all the things that make the 39-year-old Durst frown. While “Why Try” sounded more like an elementary school kid imitating a CKY2K freestyle, the new cut plays more like something that could actually impact the country’s active rock radio stations. Instead of dropping lackluster rhymes about sucker emcees frying to death, Durst – Limp Bizkit’s de facto leader – decides to sing on lines like “take all the baggage that follows me around/and just disintegrate/burn it to the ground.”

Although Durst was never a gifted lyricist (he rhymed “nookie” with “cookie” on the band’s biggest hit), the rest of the band seems to be playing well. Guitarist Wes Borland sounds refreshed after the band’s five-year hibernation, and the arrangement on “Walking Away” is extremely tight and focused. In fact, Gold Cobra will mark the first time that Limp’s original lineup has played on record since 2000’s Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, which debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Still, fans shouldn’t expect more than the spiffy artwork from the new album since Durst recently acknowledged that the album was stalled and that it was “taking way longer than expected to get this Cobra train a rolling.” Check out the new track below or hop a plane to see the band play one of these far-away tour dates. Just don’t forget your backwards Yankees cap.
