Cloud Nothings land record deal, set to release collection

Prior to writing this article, I had zero idea who the Cloud Nothings were. My bad!

Cloud Nothings is the brainchild of Cleveland’s 18-year-old Dylan Baldi and the perfect soundtrack to a lazy, hazed-out summer afternoon. Just barely old enough to be out of high school, Baldi has released tracks through Group Tightener, Old Flame, and Bathetic (which he alone created in his parents’ basement), then crafted a live band to play SXSW, tour with Wavves, and open for current indie standouts Titus Andronicus and Best Coast. Certainly beats what I was doing at 18: Halo.

The entire world will now have the opportunity to explore Baldi’s basement exploits with Turning On. Set to be released October 12th through Carpark, the label behind Toro Y Moi, Dan Deacon, and Beach House, Turning On is a 13-track collection of Baldi’s previously released EPs. Check out the track “Hey Cool Kid” and the complete track list below. To hear my favorite track of the week, head to his MySpace and give a listen the bass line behind “Turning On”.

After completing a September tour with Fucked Up, the band will return to a Baltimore studio and continue their work with producer Chester Gwazda in hopes of releasing their full-length debut in winter 2011.
