In their rematch for Billboard Top 200 supremacy, Eminem has managed to overthrow Arcade Fire.
According to Billboard, the Detroit rapper sold 133,000 copies of his latest studio album Recovery in the last seven days, some 80,000 more than what last week’s victors could muster. After selling 156,000 copies in its debut week, Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs moved only 52,000 this week, a decline of 66%. Perhaps adding to the whole “Amazon’s $3.99 album got them #1” theory, download sales were down some 74%.
To date, Eminem’s Recovery has sold 2.1 million units, and this week marks the eighth consecutive week selling at least 100,000 copies. Currently, it’s the second best selling album of the year behind Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now (2.5 million).
