Neil Young announces Gulf Coast tour

Even though he’s working on at least two new releases, Neil Young continues to spend quite a bit of time on the road. And for his third North American leg of 2010, the legendary singer/songwriter will be traveling across the United States Gulf Coast to benefit those affected by the recent oil spill.

Spin reports Young will play four September benefit shows in Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi, where he’ll ask concertgoers to bring non-perishable food items. He’ll also donate all proceeds from limited-edition Neil Young shirts for the concerts to the relief effort. Plus, Young has teamed up with Tyson Foods, which will donate 100,000 pounds of chicken products to the affected communities.

“Millions of people who live along the Gulf Coast struggle with hunger and the economic impact of the oil spill has only made matters worse,” Young said. “I appreciate the willingness of John Tyson and his company to get involved by helping the regional food bank help feed those in need. We both encourage concertgoers to spend money locally and support local business.”

As for what Young will be playing on the trek? Expect a few new songs… and maybe some “Vampire Blues”, too.

Along with the benefit shows, Young has also mapped out two additional dates for Flordia — on September 22nd in Clearwater and 23rd in Hollywood. He is also confirmed to perform at Farm Aid 25 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 25th as well as his annual Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California from October 23-24.

Tickets for these new dates go on sale starting Saturday, August 14th via Ticketmaster.com.
