Neil Young announces new solo album

Well, isn’t this a grand way to end the week.

As previously reported, Neil Young has been hard at work with acclaimed producer Daniel Lanois (U2, Bob Dylan) on a brand new studio album. Today, on his Facebook page (via 24B), the music legend announced its completion. In fact, we’ll just let him take it from here:

Le Noise is complete. It is a solo record. Playbacks are happening now. Release date is September 28th. It will be available in Vinyl, CD and iTunes in the first edition, followed by Blu-Ray, and an APP for I-Phone and I-Pad a month or so later. The app will be free. It gives you an interactive album cover. Forgive my use of the word “album”. I am old school. When you buy the songs/movies from I- tunes they show up in your APP. Peace ny

So, to summarize, Neil Young is not only shelling out new music, but he’s also up with technology. Not bad for a guy who’s 64 years old…

Speaking recently with Rolling Stone, Lanois noted that Le Noise was recorded “over just nine days during three separate full-moon cycles earlier this year”, and while there are a few solo acoustic tracks, “..the rest is very electric. There’s no band, but I got in there with my sonics. There’s nothing else out there like it.”

We don’t yet know which songs will be included, but during his still-ongoing “Twisted Road” tour, Young has debuted several new songs. You can hear one such one, “Sign of Love”, below. As for the rest of his upcoming tour dates, find those under the video. Update: You can find the eight-song tracklist below, and album art to your top right.

Of course, we’ll share more information as it becomes available.
