Paleo signs with Brooklyn’s Partisan Records, keeps on touring

Open Webster’s Dictionary and look up “DIY.” What you’ll probably find is a picture of David Andrew Strackany.  The singer-songwriter (who is better known as Paleo) has played over 700 self-booked shows since he quietly burst on the scene in 2004 and even released his latest effort, A New Day, on cassette tape. While Strackany has already proven his mettle with a song diary project that saw him write a song a day for a whole year, he remains unsatisfied with his body of work. In 2008, he admitted to Tape Op magazine that he was still trying to “make a great record,” adding, “that’s the gold star in this business.”

Now it looks like the nomadic do-it-yourselfer is finally going to get a little help. He’s just signed with Partisan Records, and the Brooklyn-based imprint is slated to release his third LP, A View of the Sky, on September 28th. The title track features jubilant horn blasts, and album highlight “World’s Smallest Violin” is an upbeat departure from some of the downtempo, introspective tunes in the Paleo catalog.

Even though DIY enthusiasts will question the deal — which makes him labelmates with fellow alt-folkies Delorean and down-south alt-country rockers Deer Tick – Strackany still isn’t straying too far from his self-sufficent roots. He just released a self-shot video for “Rivers Dry” and is currently in the midst of a 30-date tour that ends in early September. Check out the video below, then catch a show at one of his upcoming stops.  The dates are mostly coffee shops and extremely small venues, so inquire about tickets locally.
