Update: The full tracklist has been revealed along with details for a deluxe edition that will include a second CD and a DVD of several music videos and never-before-seen live performances. There will also be a triple-vinyl LP version with two CDs and one DVD available.
The thing about compilation albums is that, while they’re great, we’ve heard it all before. But not ones to rehash the past without looking forward, according to AlternativeAddiction.com, the recently reunited Soundgarden are offering a new song (of sorts) on their soon-to-be-released best-of album, Telephantasm – A Retrospective.
“Black Rain” was previously announced as the band’s offering on the new Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock game (which is out September 28th). But if you’re not a big gamer, the song will also appear on the band’s forthcoming compilation due out October 5th. Plus, if you can’t wait until October for the album to hit stores, the single should hit radio by the end of the month. Waiting is for suckers.
A tracklist has not yet been disclosed, but the effort will also feature the band’s Grammy-winning hits “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman”.
What’s more, Soundgarden also say their first ever DVD is on the the way and will include “never before-seen videos.”
If that release bonanza doesn’t quite fill you up, make sure to check out the band’s pre-Lollapalooza gig on top of their return to the festival on August 8th. That’s if you have tickets of course.
