You had to know a new Sufjan Stevens release was going to come sooner rather than later. After all, it’s not like the acclaimed singer/songwiter was going to support a five year old Illinois album or a soundtrack about the BQE on his upcoming North American tour.
So here it is, kids. Available for stream and purchase right this second is the eight-track All Delighted People EP. According to Stevens’ Bandcamp account, the effort is “built around two different versions of Sufjans long-form epic ballad ‘All Delighted People’, a dramatic homage to the Apocalypse, existential ennui, and Paul Simons ‘Sounds of Silence'”. Both “All Delighted People” and another track, “The Owl and the Tanager”, were debuted during last fall’s North American tour, while “Djohariah” is billed as a “17-minute guitar jam-for-single-mothers”.
Of course, you can just find out for yourself below, where you can stream the EP in its entirety. For those wanting a copy of their own, a digital download is available via the aforementioned Bandcamp page for $5. Stevens’ label, Asthmatic Kitty, says the record will also be available on single-CD and double-LP this winter.
