Tyondai Braxton, the singer, guitarist, and keyboardist of the post-rock band Battles, has announced that he’ll be leaving the band ahead of the release of their forthcoming, still untitled sophomore studio effort.
“Due to Battles’ ambitions of finishing their second studio album followed by commitments to a full touring schedule in 2011, and Tyondai’s own commitments as a solo artist and his desire not to tour, both Battles and Tyondai have decided to move on without each other,” the band announced in an issued statement.
“It is a sad but amicable split.”
Braxton’s most recent solo effort came in the form of 2009’s Central Market, which combined elements of orchestral music with the musician’s trademark looping. The statement did not note his future plans.
As mentioned, Battles are currently putting the finishing touches on the followup to 2007’s Mirrored and have already booked two preview concerts in New York and London for this fall. Update: Pitchfork reports all scheduled performances have been canceled.
