Whether you love him or hate him, you cannot deny that Bono is a man dedicated to his craft. We don’t need to see him swinging around during U2‘s recent performance at Turin just three months after an emergency back surgery to tell us that. As such, it should come as no surprise that U2 already has a hefty number of new songs to play and release in the future. How many? Try four albums’ worth.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Bono discussed the band’s upcoming tunes. Along with the previously reported Songs of Ascent, a companion album to No Line on the Horizon, the band has also recorded a rock album and a club-sounding album (are we going back to some Discotheque?). And of course, there are the songs Bono and The Edge scored for the now-back-on-track Spider-Man musical.
All in all, Bono estimates that there between 25 and 30 new songs across the four albums. We’ll hear the ones for Spider-Man whenever the show finally opens, but as for the others, no decision has yet been made. That said, two new song have already been debuted in concert, so we can nibble on those scraps for the time being. Plus, with a plethora of tour dates still to come, there’s plenty more opportunities for even more to be debuted.
