Rappers often substitute a half-assed vocalist to perform hooks on their hit songs when they go on tour, but Big Boi wouldn’t do us like that. Just watch this video of the 35-year-old Big Boi (aka Antwan Andre Patton) performing the Sir Lucious Left Foot: Son of Chico Dusty cut “Follow Us” (which we previewed in June) on the Late Show with David Letterman last night.
Fellow Georgia residents, Vonnegut, open the track before Big Boi, clad in a big ass ushanka, pounds the mic with his trademark, 100 mph, lyrical delivery. The live guitar is more jangly than the studio version, but the reggae-ish clanging actually serves the song’s futuristic dancehall vibe well. The band adds some horn blasts and the DJ scratches in the background were enough to get David Letterman all hot and bothered. At the end of the performance, he can be heard saying “That’s what we’re talking about. You know what I mean?! That’s exactly what we’re talking about!”
