Jimmy Fallon did what he had to do last night. Think about it. There was only one way to follow up Of Montreals souled-out, white-faced performace of Sex Karma on Thursday, and that was to bring Green Day back to NBCs legendary Studio 6B.
The band last hit the Late Night stage in May when they closed out the shows Rolling Stones week with a cover of the Stones’ “Rip This Joint”, but this time Billy Joe & Co. came back to pimp 21st Century Breakdowns fifth single and the upcoming leg of their North American tour. Flanked by an extra guitarist and keyboard player, Green Day powered through a harmony-laden version of Last of the American Girls, which was recently re-recorded by the Broadway cast of American Idiot: The Musical.
While the performance was subdued by Green Day standards, its surely enough to get you pumped up about next weekends Lollapalooza appearance. Check out the video below, and if you cant make it to Chicago, then get your ticket for one of the other tour stops below at Ticketmaster.com.
