It’s covers day here at CoS, and that makes us all a little happier. Arcade Fire covered Jay Reatard, and Joanna Newsom and Robin Pecknold gave their takes on Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow. Lets trifecta this, shall we?
With a new mixtape of covers already out, Mates of State are a perfect fit to offer another insightful cover to The A.V. Club’s “Undercover” series. Over at Slicing Up Eyeballs, you can see how The Replacements’ seminal “I Will Dare” is filtered through Mates of State’s saccharine sounds to a supremely pleasing effect. The guitar riff has been promoted to the trumpeter, the chorus slides into a cool and sultry waltz, and is that Todd Barry on drums? Nice. Check out the video below.
