Why did Carlos D leave Interpol?

“Carlos really doesn’t like playing the bass guitar… How integral is the bass to Interpol? I mean, it’s huge. It’s a total harmonic component. It’s hook-laden. But he really, really didn’t like the bass. It’s not his instrument of choice, and it definitely wasn’t his first instrument.”

Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino tells the Guardian why the band’s longtime bassist, Carlos Dengler, chose to leave prior to the release of their forth studio album. Fogarino added, “touring’s a bitch…  [Carlos] didn’t like it.”

As for their current relationship? Despite playing together for 10 years, Fogarino noted that he’s hasn’t spoken to Dengler since he quit. “I haven’t spoken to him in ages,” the drummer said. “I think it’s kind of understandable … When you spend 10 years together and you finally break up, you’re not gonna be on the phone every day.”

As previously reported, Dengler recorded the band’s forthcoming self-titled fourth studio, which is due for release on September 7th via Matador, prior to leaving. You can check out Fogarino and the rest of the current members of Interpol support the release in the months ahead…
