Even after 30 years on the road, each member of the Grateful Dead keeps their bags packed and their calendars filled. Formed in 2009, Bill Kreutzmann’s newest project, 7 Walkers, is a funk-rock collaboration with Louisiana guitarist Papa Mali, bassist and New Orleans native George Porter, JR., and multi-instrumentalist Matt Hubbard. And even amidst Kreutzmann’s busy schedule with The Rhythm Devils, the new foursome has stayed busy with two tours and multiple sessions for an upcoming self-titled debut.
Described by the band “as an open love letter to New Orleans,” 7 Walkers features Willie Nelson (“King Cotton Blues”), several songs from former Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead classics, and Mali originals. Beginning October 1st in San Francisco, 7 Walkers will begin their 3rd trek across the US. Spanning the rest of the year and encompassing 22 performances, the tour makes stops in Fort Lauderdale, San Diego, Portland, Maine, New York, Syracuse, and Reading.
