Formed back in 2002 as a live drum and bass outfit, Australia’s Pendulum have since toned down their production style. Their newest effort Immersion, which dropped back in May, features Liam Howlett of The Prodigy, Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson, and three members of the Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames. The result is a hybrid of electronica, dub step, and a dose of heavy metal — and definitely worth breaking out for your next high-energy dance party.
Composed of a singer/producer, drummer, guitar, bass, dual DJs, and an MC, Pendulum are like the Linkin Park from Down Under, so it’s fitting the band recently covered LP’s newest single “The Catalyst”. For anyone familiar with the original, don’t expect too much of a change. Aside from the prerequisite drum and bass break, Pendulum’s live cover is nearly identical to the original. After listening to the track below, head here to hear how it stacks up.
