If you read our recent Gucci Mane coverage, you’ll note that we’re trying to be more aware of hip-hop artists outside of a certain individual who makes G.O.O.D. music. Well, get ready to give us an extra big pat on the back as we announce that two up and coming hip-hop artists, Drake and J. Cole, will each release a mixtape later this year (via Miss Info).
Drake, fresh off his massively successful yet not-that-great debut Thank Me Later, is readying It’s Never Enough for a Christmas time release. While he’s still putting the finishing touches on it, in an recent interview with MTV News UK, Young Money label head Mack Maine said that Drake was working on an R&B-only effort. That’s right, an album all for you, ladies. No word on a tracklist yet, but Drake did mention a song entitled “I Get Lonely Too” would be included.
And speaking of guys who wowed at the recent Eminem/Jay-Z Home & Home concert at Yankee Stadium, J. Cole recently confirmed in an interview with Angela Yee (which you can listen to here) that his new mixtape, titled Villematic, will see release in October. Details currently stop there, but the MC did offer what appears to be the cover of the effort. Also, in the aforementioned interview, you can hear Cole share his feelings on how he perceives himself and his new Roc Nation labelmate, Willow Smith.
As always, stay tuned for more news and details as they’re announced. Also, anything on Kanye West.
