It’s always great to have a good chat. A good chat becomes even more valuable when it’s with someone like Romy Madley Croft, vocalist and guitarist of the Mercury Prize-nominated band The xx. Truly it’s a marvel to see the wealth of success that this band has conjured up in only a year and some change. Whether it’s the constant and overwhelming remixes by such greats as Florence and the Machine, the fact that its singles — “VCR”, “Crystalized”, “Islands”, and “Basic Space”, take your pick — are played at any place with a speaker system, or the mystique this band holds, it’s clear that The xx has quite the shining light following its path.
It’s been a few weeks now, but I had the opportunity to sit down with Croft, backstage at Lollapalooza, and the two of us had a light conversation on some generally basic topics. I didn’t try to dig too deep — after all, there were countless distractions, it is a music festival — but the result proved intriguing. Hopefully we’ll have the time for a more intimate conversation somewhere down the line.
Hopefully.

Out of all your remixes and mashups, which are some of your favorite? Personally, I thought Wait What’s The Notorious XX was pretty interesting.
