Late Night Lobotomy (9/27)

Late night is throwing a whole smorgasbord of artists our way this week, which is great in a way but bad in another. Great in that the drought is over, and the reruns are no more. Bad in that this limits the amount of acts that appeal to our demographic. That said, I think we should just be grateful that late night’s looking good again. In that same vein, we’d also like to take the time to acknowledge E Street man and longtime Conan collaborator Max Weinberg and the fantastic 17 years he spent with Conan. He announced his departure from Conan’s forthcoming TBS show, and we wish him luck and thank him for night after night of dry humor and classic drumming.

But let’s look forward, not back. As mentioned, this week is bursting at the seams with music from every genre: Train and Maroon 5 for your perverse alternative pleasure; Teenage Fanclub and Belle and Sebastian (!) for your 90’s nostalgia; The Avett Brothers, Kenny Chesney, and Zac Brown Band (who are a personal guilty pleasure) to get you back to your country roots; Usher, N.E.R.D., and Drake (I think by asking us to Thank him Later, he meant for us to disregard the album he was currently putting out and hope for some better work in the future, that we could eventually Thank him Later for) to quench your hip-hop thirst; and Los Campesinos!, Menomena, Japandroids, and The Temper Trap for your indie fix. That covers pretty much every base, except for Gregorian chants, which for another week go unrepresented. Don’t ask me why…
