Mogwai sign with Sub Pop ahead of new album

Last month we clued you into Mogwai’s new album, slated for an early 2011 release. Few details have emerged since then save one: the Scottish post-rock quintet will release the record on Sub Pop. This seemingly minor detail is more significant than you might think. Mogwai has spent most of their career on Matador, so this indie-label swap presents a significant loss to Matador’s roster.

In their website announcement, the band offered no reasoning for the change. The language both the band and the Sub Pop site employ indicates this may be a one-album deal, as opposed to a permanent signing. Rock Action Records, the band’s own label, will handle the European rollout.

That’s all we have for now, but we’ll present more details as they emerge.

    02/17 – Bournemouth, UK @ Bournemouth O2 Academy
    02/18 – Cardiff, UK @ Cardiff University
    02/19 – Bristol, UK @ Bristol O2 Academy
