Muse to play Lollapalooza 2011?

The 2011 edition of Lollapalooza isn’t set to launch for 11 months, but we already have our first lineup rumor. And boy, is it a big one.

Discussing their plans for 2011 in a newly published article in Kerrang! Magazine, Muse noted that they’ll be taking most of next year off to work on their next studio album, but will “probably do a couple of shows [next summer].” And while the UK rockers did not confirm their participation, the article notes the band has been offered a headlining slot at next year’s Lollapalooza.

Whether Muse will indeed headline Lollaplooza 2011 probably won’t be known until next April, when the lineup for the Chicago based music festival is typically announced. That said, the band has closed out Lollapalooza once before, having headlined the Chicago based festival in 2007. Since then, they released their chart topping fifth album The Resistance and opened for U2. This fall, Muse will embark on a headlining tour of North America and will top the bill at both the Austin City Limits and Voodoo Experience.

Lollapalooza 2011 is set to run from August 5-7 in Chicago’s Grant Park. Stay tuned for more updates, and be sure to bookmark our Festival Outlook page for all the latest lineup news and rumors.
