Despite the backlash against the wave of vampire TV series and movies in the form of the recent and just as awful film Vampires Suck (not to mention the horrible things you can find by searching “Edward Twilight” in Google), lest you forget that while the releases themselves may be lacking (except True Blood; Team Eric 4 life), their soundtracks are spot on (or pretty close). That trend continues with the release for the CW’s The Vampire Diaries.
While we know almost nothing of the show and refuse to fill our valuable brain space regarding its storylines about vampires and hot young teens, it offers much in the way of bonuses that other vampire-centric soundtracks don’t. First, you’ll note that the Goldfrapp and Smashing Pumpkins songs, “We Radiate” and “The Fellowship” respectively, are exclusives. While not so much an exclusive, Silversun Pickups’ “Currency of Love” is a b-side from Swoon. Plus, there’s the Feed Me remix to Gorillaz’ “On Melancholy Hill”, which we told you to Check Out in June. All that, plus cuts from Placebo and Bat for Lashes, make this one bloody good soundtrack.
Original Television Soundtrack: The Vampire Diaries hits stores October 12th.
