In June, we announced that Velvet Revolver, the super group made up of Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum and Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner, would reunite without vocalist Scott Weiland. As it turns out, they haven’t lined up a new singer yet, so this October they’ll be holding auditions.
The news comes from the BostonHerald.com‘s recent interview with Slash, who went on to note that before Weiland was ever chosen, Sorum had wanted to nab Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy. They considered Kennedy again shortly after Weiland’s departure, but because Velvet Revolver is a “24-hour-a-day project and Kennedy is still committed to Alter Bridge,” Slash didn’t “want to be the guy responsible for breaking up a band.”
No word yet on details of auditions, but we will keep you posted. As for expectations for their new frontman, per usual, Slash is once again acting pretty cavalier, saying “…well find someone. Maybe not somebody known, but some kind of local hero. Like a Charlie Daniels-esque virtuoso?
As always, stay tuned for more news as it’s announced. Also, in case you don’t get this job, you can always play bass for Jane’s Addiction.
