As it turns out, The Sword‘s recent hometown appearance at Austin City Limits was something to remember for a regrettable reason — it was drummer Trivett Wingo‘s last performance with the band. Last week, The Sword announced Wingo has left the metal quartet. Consequently, the Texas metal heads have also canceled all upcoming tour dates.
In a statement, Wingo explained he is “physically and emotionally unable to continue on as part of The Sword” and that his bandmates “are people that I deeply respect.” The surviving members of The Sword, which described the split as “amicable” in a press release, called Wingo “a phenomenal musician” and “an integral part of this band’s success.” Continuing Wingo’s sentiments, J.D. Cronise, Kyle Shutt, and Bryan Richie wrote, “We wish he could continue the adventure with us, but we understand that the life of a touring musician is not for everyone….The show must go on, though, and [we] will be back on the road as soon as humanly possible.”
The Sword are in the process of rescheduling the canceled U.S. and European dates. The press release made no specific mention of the band’s scheduled gigs at Soundwave, but for now it’s probably best not to count on anything.
