Lou Reed, Mos Def to join Gorillaz for Madison Square Garden show

Miami, you might have won once, but let’s be honest: the biggest stars always come to play in New York. (Well, with the exception of Mets, Knicks, and Rangers, but that’s a story for another day.) Case in point, when the Gorillaz take to Madison Square Garden on October 8th, they’ll be joined by not only tour openers N.E.R.D. and Plastic Beach band members Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash, De La Soul, Little Dragon, and Bobby Womack, but the legendary Lou Reed and rapper Mos Def as well.

Both Reed and Mos Def have performed with the Damon Albarn-led outfit already this year (video evidence below), but the Madison Square Garden performance will mark the only time both are scheduled to appear on stage during the band’s upcoming North American tour. That said, Mos Def will also perform with Gorillaz at the tour’s October 10th stop at Camden NJ’s Susquehanna Bank Center and at the October 11th date at the Patriot Center in Washington DC.

So, as it stands now, the list of currently confirmed guests of the Gorillaz Plastic Beach band is as follows:

    Lou Reed (NYC only)
Mos Def (NYC, Camden and DC only)
    Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
    Bashy
    Little Dragon
    De La Soul
    Bobby Womack
    Roses Gabor
    Bootie Brown
    Kano
Miho Hatori (to appear in Los Angeles and NYC only)
