U2 set to headline Glastonbury 2011?

While we’re always aiming to bring you some good news, we  occasionally have to be the bearers of bad news; this time, however, it’s two healthy scoops of disappointment. Not only are tickets to the 2011 Glastonbury Music Festival sold out, but those who lost out will likely be missing U2 as a headlining act. Double bummer.

In a message posted on the band’s official site prior to Glastonbury’s Sunday ticket on sale, the Irish rock band noted that Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has said he’d like U2 to play in 2011 before pointing out the convenient gap in their tour schedule just before their scheduled show in East Lansing, Michigan on June 26th. (Glasto 2011 is set to take place from June 22-26 in Pilton, UK.) However, the band stopped shorting of confirming their attendance, noting only “We’re certainly excited about our plans for next year. Watch this space!” Of course we are.

U2 were set to headline Glastonbury 2010 before frontman Bono injured his back and forced the band to cancel. There’s no word on when next year’s Glastonbury lineup will be announced, but other rumored acts include Radiohead, Madonna, Eminem, and Coldplay.
