As I write this, I’m in the middle of my lunch break at my desk job. I have already wanted to de-map many of my coworkers much in the same way director “beeple,” aka Mike Winkleman depicts in the video for “Kill Your Co-Workers” by Flying Lotus (via Prefix). The song appears on Lotus’ latest EP Pattern+Grid World, and features some rather retro techniques for Steven Ellison, using a lot of 8-bit controller sounds. But, as with his other work, the meticulousness is what shines. This has to be one of the sweetest robot videos since this robot video.
Do you want see a gruesome pixelated death that wasn’t featured in the video? Does this parade need more Pink Floyd-esque pig floats? Well, as an added bonus, beeple has made the animation in the video “open source.” This means, if you’re unlike me and you know about, like, Linux and C++ and all that, you can download all of the 3D files here, and use them in your own video projects. Pretty neat, huh?
Oh, and did you catch the little addendum at the very end? Damn. And I had all these great ideas of what I was going to do with Steve and Preston who don’t respond to their emails in a timely fashion.
“Kill Your Co-Workers”
