And now Sufjan Stevens gets a tribute album…

Here’s a trend warning, faithful CoS readers: If you thought that tribute album for the still-living Joanna Newsom was a one-off occurrence, think again. On March 22nd, 2011, the blog On Joyful Wings will release a song-by-song cover album of Sufjan Stevens’ 2004 album Seven Swans, featuring the likes of Bonnie “Prince” Billy and a host of other artists (via Pitchfork). Success is the new dying, it would seem.

While not initiated by Stevens himself (that would have been awkward), the project was given the OK by the singer-songwriter and all proceeds will go to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Made up primarily of a lot of unknown acts, another notable appearance on the LP includes a cameo from The Gregory Brothers, those hilarious folks behind Auto-Tune the News. Because nothing says making the world a better place then the “Bed Intruder Song”.

Check out the tracklist below and stay tuned for more news as it’s announced. To the next person who honors a living musician, can we suggest Pat Benatar?
