I’m not sure what kind of reading material Nicki Minaj prefers, but I would bet she’s read every page of Missy Elliott’s book. While it’s certainly Minaj’s time in the spotlight, her flow and charisma certainly owe a lot to Missy and the Swing Mob. And who does Missy owe a lot to? Long time producer and friend Timbaland. From their first collaboration early in both their careers with the R&B group Sista to the hit “Git Ur Freak On” to her forthcoming 7th LP Block Party, and countless stops in between, it’s safe to say the two know how to get the best work out of each other.
When asked via Twitter why Missy was left off the Shock Value 2 project, Timbaland tweeted a nice little gem from 5 years ago, a raw, unmixed Missy Elliott track “Swat Dat Fly” (via Nah Right). The song has aged a bit in five years (if you can believe it), but it manages to be a pretty solid Timbaland/Missy jam. Check out the song below.
