Jayhawks continue reunion with new album, mini-tour

Following their short-lived reunion in 2009, it appeared The Jayhawks’ future would be limited to reissues. However, things do change, and it looks like the alt-country legends have decided to give their fans an early Christmas present. Spinner is reporting that founding members Mark Olson and Gary Louris – who released an album, Ready for the Flood, together in 2009 – have rounded up the rest of the lineup from the Jayhawks’ Tomorrow the Green Grass era and will tour behind brand new material.

Louris recently told Rolling Stone that “Mark and I feel that there is some business left undone, [so] we got together and wrote some great songs.” He also said that the new disc is meant for true Jayhawks fans who love Green Grass, but that it won’t be a “mirror image” of the 1995 classic. The band plans on finishing the still-untitled LP by the end of November and mixing it before the year is over. And while you probably won’t be able to pick it off shelves until the spring or early summer of 2011, Jambase is reporting that you’ll definitely have a chance to see the newly reunited band play the songs live.

The band has seven dates scheduled in January, and they’re supposed to play both Green Grass and 1992’s Hollywood Town Hall in their entirety during two, two-night stands in both New York City and Chicago. Other stops on the mini-tour include Toronto, Philadelphia, and a hometown show in Minneapolis on January 29th. Pre-sale for almost all of the dates starts today, with a public on-sale to follow on December 3rd. The only exception will be the Windy City dates, which are not included on the pre-sale. Chi-city fans can start ordering seats for the Vic Theater shows on December 4th. All ticketing information (including pre-sale passwords) is available by visiting the band’s official webpage.
