Yim Yames set to play Washington, DC tree lighting ceremony

When you think of the National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, stuffy singers like Barry Manilow (sorry, B-Mow) probably come to mind. But lest you forget, this current president likes Lil Wayne. So, with his progressive musical attitudes in mind, it’s no wonder that Yim Yames (aka Jim James of My Morning Jacket) is performing at this year’s ceremony (via the official MMJ site). You got a problem with that choice, Wall Street Journal?

The whole shebang goes down on December 9th on the Ellipse at President’s Park in Washington, D.C., and B.B. King, Sara Bareilles, and Maroon 5 are also set to play. If you can’t make it to the official ceremony, then you can always stream it online beginning 5 p.m. EST. The lighting will also air on public television throughout the rest of the month (details here).

Between this and the Gift Wrapped compilation, and Xmas 2010 has apparently gone indie. Fa la la la. Or whatever.
